Classic cars have long been featured in exhibitions around the country. Whether they are in fields at country fairs, classic car shows, or renowned museum exhibitions, the four wheelers have been having their day since, well, their inception. While the culture surrounding motorcycles is certainly making headway in pop culture with the surge of tv dramas and reality shows surrounding the culture, it strays only slightly from the rough-riding reputation it’s been stamped with between the Hell’s Angels and bad boy greasers. It seems that, pop-culturally at least, motorcycles have been symbols of rebellion and strength, while the elegance, beauty, and art of them has been all but glossed over.
Ian Barry‘s exhibition, at the Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles, features his artfully crafted motorcycles and is a show that manages to bring heady masculinity and power matched only by the cerebral sleekness of design. These are works of art that look like they would set your pants on fire when you straddled them.
