It’s my favorite time of year! FaceOff season! This season is even more exciting because it features a number of my all-time favorite contestants returning for a chance to win the title of FaceOff Champion…and a few other people whom I am sure a very talented, but I don’t care right now because I just want to watch Laura, Tate, RJ & Roy battle it out til the end.
Off to a good start is Tate, who won the Quickfire challenge.
SPOTLIGHT CHALLENGE: Work in teams to create a series of characters all from the same world. Characters must include: Ogre, Pixie, Faun, Troll, & Witch.
Rookies: Leaders of each species, identified as reigning leaders through a gemstone in their chests.
Rick & Laney: Faun
Love the face on this Faun. She’s just so adorable! The sculpting is nice all around, and I like the hair/fur a whole lot. I’m not thrilled by the way the hooves lay on teh feet, but I’m just nitpicking at this point. It’s a great piece.
Adolfo: Cave Troll
This dude looks so much like my curmudgeon-y neighbor crossed with a pig. I’m not sure there’s much to say beyond that. It’s certainly not terrible, but the paint job is lifeless, and I don’t think it achieved what it wanted to.
I like the pearlescent paint job she did, as well as the head piece. Nicely sculpted. I wish the body had a lot more going on though.
Sam & Scott: Ancient Witch
All I see are giant tits and a horrible skirt. Nice head piece, though!
Edie & Tolin: Ogre
This is amateur hour. So many cardinal sins: gaping mouth, holes for eyes, disproportionate. After 4 seasons, you are going to have to put up better than that. Here’s hoping they step it up!
Vets: Eyeless Witch has minions to do her bidding
RJ, Eric & Frank: Ogre
It’s cool that they’ve got him walking on all fours, but it still looks like a dude in a costume. The legs are massive, and the head is so tiny. Some serious issues with scale. Not my favorite.
Tate: Cave Troll
This is super gross. There was a LOT of work that went into this, including a bloody fetus. Nicely done, Tate. I’ve missed you.
This bitch is gross, too. Loving the head sculpt (not so much the dark paint – ack!), the boobs are kind of awesome, and the finger-back is super gnarly. I don’t want to look at it anymore, though.
Alana & Miranda: Sexy/Creepy Pixie
Well, isn’t she darling?! And the head sculpt is nice. Though she doesn’t look like she belongs in the same world as any of these. It does look really clean. I like that it’s not too much, you know? It’s not overworked. Great details with the double ears and subtle paint job.
Kind of looks like a giant nose. Or a giant nut sack. Still though, it looks like a really nicely put together nut sack, with sweet antlers.
Team: Veterans! Obviously. They’ve got a leg up having been here before, but there were some really nice newbie pieces so they should watch their backs.
Winner: Miranda! Good job.
