Welcome back! This episode we start with a pretty cool Foundation Challenge that consisted of transforming beloved children stories characters into some sorta monster. The beauty makeups were pretty great, and Eric F took home the prize and won immunity!
SPOTLIGHT CHALLENGE: Create a bug hybrid character based on patterns they chose
Eric Z – Mosquito
Lauren -This is a terrifying mosquito. The textures, the fleshy tones, everything is just creeping me out. Ugh, and the blood splatter sheet skirt? I can’t. It’s awesome, but I can’t.
Eric F – Desert Wolf Spider
Lauren – While Eric thinks she’s beautiful, equating her to a classic pin-up girl, this bitch is jacked. She’s got a tentacle coming out of her nipple. And her ass. She’s a spider assault victim. No laughing matter. And that poor bitches face. Nicely done, Eric.
Meagan – Moth
Lauren – Meagan said it best herself: he looks like Chewy & a moth mated. It’s just…some sort of awful. What is that skirt it’s wearing? Is that part of the wings? And where’s the gorgeous orange color from the inspiration image? Such an easy decision and yet she had to complicate it. Grrl, keep it simple, stupid.
Judges -Very disappointed, looks like pop art, didn’t follow any design
Lauren – Not entirely sure what the texture on the arms is about, but I like the idea of the stinger as an arm. I think he could have used a little more obvious ‘bee’ colors though. Just to make it obvious what was going on.
Lauren -The costuming is just…bizarre. But I loved the leaves! Which has nothing to do with the actual grasshopper…but still. I didn’t hate this piece, but it is wearing flip flops…so…
Judges –This makes me want to die
Kris – Butterfly
Lauren -Really interesting sculptural decisions on the chest, considering I don’t think butterflies have six packs. Now I know. Super ripped. Also, really beautiful work on the wings!
Judges -Great decisions, great use of color
Wayne – Firefly
Lauren -Love love love this critter! The hidden eyes are wonderful (and so are the huge ones), and I love how he used the wings to flow over the glowing bulb at the base of the piece. Jiggling chin-strap on the other hand…
Judges -Love the silhouette, great sculpting, but did not complete the challenge
Autumn – Beetle
Lauren – I find myself loving the beetle in a cloak. I’m really surprised to see this come from Autumn, who has been fairly unimpressive so far in the competition. She’s really stepped up today. The sculpting was really nice, the paint job was great. I’m really enjoying this.
Anthony – Ant
Lauren – Ack! What is going on here?! The sculpting isn’t very good, it’s all too flat and lifeless. The colors are not great, and the costuming is awful. The judges were right: he started so big in the competition, this was a long way to fall.
Judges -The worst he’s done
Winner: Wayne! Sort of! Since he didn’t finish the challenge (he left out his ‘inspiration’ piece) so it goes to Kris, who is totally fine having this fall in his lap. And his work was great so there’s nothing to be upset about.
Loser: Alam. I didn’t think her piece was awesome this week, but I have liked her work before and I hope she keeps being creative.
