Artists have always used the passing of time as a concept in art, sometimes even a tool. Photographers are probably the most common, using open shutters to capture everything from running water to create a smooth white, almost cloud-like texture, to the night sky in dramatic detail. Other artists take the concept and interpret it in a more cerebral way, using the idea of dualities and phases as a starting point. (insert time is a flat circle joke here)
I am really loving the paintings of Christine Wu because she uses this concept of time in a playful, sensuous way. Though along with concept and execution, it’s her textures that are the icing on the cake, for me.
