According to experts who performed a ‘virtual autopsy’ on Tutankhamun via CT scan, evidence suggests that the Boy King combusted…inside his tomb. While scientists had acknowledged that there were odd injuries present on one half of the body, they couldn’t confirm what caused the damage and it seems that the fact that he was all jacked up was ignored so scientists could focus on other things, like how he died (Spoiler Alert: Malaria).
Now they are confident, with the help of the scan, fire investigators, and a sample taken from the body, that the oils used in the mummification process most likely caused the poor boy to combust shortly after burial. Whoops!
