This past week I have been hitting up the New York International Gift Show representing my lovely of loveliests, and while there I got to meet a ton of amazing creators, designers and visionaries.
While there wasn’t time to really get to know everyone I thought was fantabulous, I figured I would show you some of my favorites with whom I did get to know a bit!
First let’s start with Susan Hanover. Her work caught my eye immediately – probably because the pieces are larger than life. With real 14k gold, semi precious stones and my favorite touch, raw stones, her work is sleek, sharp, feminine but a little dangerous. It’s really no surprise that you can find her work at Henri Bendel and other luxury shops around the world – this stuff is bananas.
Next up we have Jackie Huang – the mind behind Wool Buddy. Honestly, I’m kind of obsessed with his work…which is felted critters. He created a 6′ tall gawky giraffe out of wool, and thanks to his daughters fascination with all things ‘marine’, his creature collection has grown to include alligators, seals, toothy sharks and even angler fish. Needless to say, I’m a little bit in love.
Up Next is artist Dolan Geiman. He’s a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, and his various works may even have a twist of pop. Reclaimed materials, nostalgia and nature rule in his repertoire and you can even cruise his blog for inspiration (yours and his!).
And finally we have the folks at F Is For Frank. Naturally, it’s another jewelry designer but that shouldn’t come as a shock to you at all considering you know me so well. They have a myriad of fun stuff, but what really caught my eye was their rings. Mainly because they are a little morbid, a little dark and a lot of awesome. I wish I could have seen more of their stuff up close but thankfully their site is pretty extensive.
And what’s better than a quick rundown of cool stuff? Another round of In Depth With The Artist featuring some of these very people (and a few others I haven’t mentioned yet!). 2012 is obviously off to a great start.
