The Heritage Auctions Signature event in Beverly Hills opens May 14-15th and features a bizarre mix of playful pin-ups by the likes of Vargas and Elvgren, sci-fi illustrations by Henrique Alvim Correa and Carl Lundgren, all the way to Dr. Seuss. Oh the places we’ll go, indeed. Better than having to get your ass to California is just checking out the auction while in your sweatpants with your computer on your lap, which is what I did when I went down the online auction rabbit hole.
The best part of this auction is going through the current offerings and their opening bids. While many of the works start at around $1500, the Vargas is going for upwards of $30k, as is the Nagel (closer to $50k now). However many smaller pieces have current bids of only $1, which makes me think that even us plebs can afford something at auction! Even better, the cheap stuff looks really nice! As in, something you’d actually want to hang in your house! Imagine that. Here’s a taste of what’s being offered, but I suggest you check out the whole collection (which is massive) and consider some of the smaller pieces to start your own collection.
