Gallery 1988, the preeminent showplace for pop-culture contemporary art that normal people can enjoy, appreciate and understand and not feel intimidated going into the actual space, is a gallery after my own heart.
They are currently hosting their second Is This Thing On? exhibition featuring works centered around and about comedians in pop-culture. Behold the genius and feel free to laugh at, and along with, these works of art.
I’ve railed against the humorless fine art institution and how its stifling rigidity can be wholly alienating, and Gallery 1988’s aim is to basically obliterate this very issue.
It is exactly what the fine art community needs.
And they also love Weird Al. So, they are pretty much the best.
So here’s some hilarious pieces of art by some really talented people – bringing joy to art lovers everywhere.
